Glass domed observation cars first appeared in the 1940s and 1950s. And boy did railroads go crazy for them. It seems just about every railroad had its own uniquely named version: the Super Dome, the Sceneramic, the Astra Dome, the big Dimoe, the Great Dome, and the Pleasure Dome (!). The Vista-Dome pays homage to the great domed observation cars of the mid-20th Century.
